About us

Our beginning

Our coffee journey began in late 2024 as a small shave ice truck called Bing Bing Shave Ice. At one event, we decided to offer Vietnamese iced coffee alongside the shave ice. To our surprise, the coffee quickly outsold everything else.

Then it happened again. And again.

What started as a side product gradually became the heart of what we were doing. We began putting more of our attention into Vietnamese coffee, eventually becoming Cà Phê Haru, a tribute to our Vietnamese and Korean roots.

Cà phê means “coffee” in Vietnamese.
Haru means “day” in Korean.

Into specialty coffee

As our curiosity grew, so did our interest in coffee itself. We began exploring specialty coffee, learning more about the people, places, and processes behind every cup. Eventually, our focus expanded beyond Vietnamese coffee to coffees from producers and regions around the world.

That evolution became Haru Lab.

We added Lab to represent the way we approach coffee: with curiosity, experimentation, and a constant desire to refine what we do.

Today, our café continues to operate in Elk Grove, California, while our roasting operation is based in Berkeley. What began with a dessert truck has become a pursuit of better coffee, one day, one cup, and one experiment at a time.
